Abstract

Implementation of self-regulated learning at vocational schools – contexts, concepts, project reports and success factors for the organisational development of schools

The specific prevailing conditions and contexts at vocational schools must be considered for a comprehensive implementation of self-regulated learning to take place. The following key dimensions can be distinguished: economic and political infrastructure, organisational infrastructure (issues of room planning and furnishing, the equipment and monitoring of dedicated rooms such as learning centres), social and knowledge infrastructure (the creation and establishment of teacher teams, how teachers and the school leadership interpret their roles, setting up and extending educational networks), as well as the development of appropriate media infrastructure (such as web-based co-operation and learning platforms).

This paper describes and analyses the conditions required in order to initiate and establish self-regulated learning in various curricular areas at vocational schools. In a further section it presents a project-based approach for one particular curricular area, or for the whole school organisation. In addition, it also outlines some examples of approaches characterised by good practice.
